Abstract
This study has tried to clarify what influence types of traumatic experiences in adolescence have on early maladaptive schemas and interpersonal relations, and what this study has tried to verify are the following two points. First, it has clarified what differences adolescents show in early maladaptive schemas and problems with interpersonal relations due to types of traumatic experiences. Second, in order to clarify the path of the causation of problems with interpersonal relations through some psychologically internal course, this study has verified mediation effects of early maladaptive schemas between complex traumas and problems with interpersonal relations. For this, the study carried out a questionnaire survey consisting of life event questions, a complex trauma scale, interpersonal relation scale, and an early maladaptive schema scale on adolescents from 7 high schools and 4 youth consulting centers in three cities, and then a total of 776 adolescents¡¯data were used for the study. First of all, the subjects were classified on the basis of their traumatic experiences into the trauma-less group, the simple traumatic group, the interpersonal traumatic group, the complex traumatic group, and multiple traumatic group. Then, as a result of the examination of differences in early maladaptive schemas and problems with interpersonal relations due to types of traumas, there were significant differences shown among the groups in early maladaptive schemas and problems with interpersonal relations due to types of traumatic experiences. That is to say, it turned out that groups with multiple or complex traumatic experiences showed more and greater problems with interpersonal relations in early maladaptive schemas than groups with simple or interpersonal traumatic experiences. Next, in order to verify mediation effects of early maladaptive schemas on traumatic experiences and problems with interpersonal relations only in groups with complex or multiple traumatic experiences, this study established some theoretical models of path structure influencing them directly or indirectly, and verified them against the data. As a result of the data analysis, it turned out that early maladaptive schemas partially mediated the two variables, complex traumas and problems with interpersonal relations. On the basis of the above results, the significance, limitations, and suggestions for future research were discussed.
